Lachlan Vass
Lachlan is completing a PhD in the Economics program, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) (Hons) from the University of Melbourne. His PhD focuses on the link between immigration and firm-level productivity in Australia. He has previously worked at the Australian Treasury, the Finacial Conducty Authority in the UK, and at the e61 Institute. He has experience in applied microeconometrics, causal inference, and the analysis of large administrative datasets.
Research Interest
Lachlan’s research investigates the link between immigration and firm productivity in Australia. To do so it uses longitudinal, large-scale administrative microdata that links workers with firms in the two decades prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, a period where Australia experienced decreasing productivity growth. It investigates the historical link between immigration and productivity and analyses the role of changes in immigration-related policies, with a particular interest in human capital policies.
