Master of National Security Policy (MNSEP)
- Completion of 72 units.
- One and a half years full time, or up to 6 years part time.
Program Requirements
- at least 2 x 6-unit compulsory foundational courses (12 - 24 units)
- at least 3 x 6-unit national security policy courses (18+ units)
- at least 2 x 3-unit national security issues courses (6+ units). Taken in groups of two.
- elective courses from those listed*, including the option of a 24-unit Thesis.
Choosing courses if you've received unspecified credit
*If 24 units of unspecified credit has been granted you should only choose national security courses as your electives. Do not choose courses from outside the national security area. Please check with the Student Engagement team if you are unsure.

Variations to the degree requirements
You must complete the degree requirements as published in the year you commenced your program. While it is not common to allow variations, requests to do so must be approved by the NSC Academic Director. Please contact Crawford.degrees@anu.edu.au for more information.
Internships
All students have the opportunity to complete an internship as part of their degree. Most internships must be self-arranged but School-arranged opportunities do arise.

Graduate Certificate of National Security Policy
- Completion of 24 units.
- 6 months full time, up to 3 years part time.

NSPO8031 Thesis
As part of the Master of National Security Policy, students are given the opportunity to undertake a 24 unit thesis course. Completing a thesis (15,000 words) will demonstrate an advanced aptitude for conducting innovative research and producing high quality writing and is suitable for students who may be interested in applying for HDR study.
To be considered for the thesis, you must have:-
- already completed 48 units in the degree at the time of starting the thesis course, and
- a weighted average mark of 70.
Students who received credit will be required to rescind it to ensure they have enough space in their program to complete the thesis.
You can choose to complete your thesis either part time (12 units over two semesters) or full time (24 units in one semester).
How to apply
There is no formal application form. However, it is imperative that you complete the following steps:
- Secure a supervisor – it is recommended that you reach out to potential supervisors during the semester prior to the one in which you intend to enrol. Search Crawford People for academics who specialise in your interested area.
- Contact the Course Convenor – you must have support from the convenor to enrol in the course. As part of this step, we will check you meet the entry requirements. The Convenor can also answer any questions you may have.
- Once you have the endorsement of the Convenor, contact the Student Engagement team at Crawford.degrees@anu.edu.au to be enrolled in NSPO8031. It is recommended that you enrol at least three weeks prior to the start date.
