Shaping feminist geography: Professor Lahiri-Dutt’s impact recognised with prestigious award

The Feminist Geography Specialty Group has honoured Professor Kuntala Lahiri-Dutt AO with the 2025 Jan Monk Service Award, a prestigious acknowledgment for her pioneering contributions to feminist geography.
This award, named after the late Professor Jan Monk, celebrates those whose work has significantly advanced the visibility of women in geography and feminist scholarship.
Professor Lahiri-Dutt’s impactful research at the intersection of gender, power, and natural resource management has reshaped the way we think about feminist political ecology. Her work sheds light on the lives and struggles of marginalised women, particularly in the face of neoliberal capitalism and development. Through participatory methodologies, she has not only challenged dominant research paradigms but also empowered women as experts in managing their environments.
This award is a reflection of her tireless efforts to amplify the voices of those often excluded from critical policy discussions and to advocate for justice in the most impactful and inclusive ways possible.
From all of us at the Crawford School, congratulations, Professor Lahiri-Dutt!
