Episode 17 of the Saving the World webinar series features Dr Sabrina Chakori, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at CSIRO.
Calls for a shift away from ‘growthism’ (policymaking centred on economic growth) have been growing louder recently. This has been fuelled by accelerating climate change, ever-increasing concentrations of wealth, rising health inequities compounded by climate change, and a growing sense that the long-standing growth-based approach is no longer delivering for the vast majority in developed economies.
In this webinar, Dr Sabrina Chakori and Dr Hridesh Gajurel will discuss alternative approaches to growthism that emphasise wellbeing, equity, and sustainability. They will discuss approaches representing both incremental and more radical departures from the current model. They will also point to potential pathways to such alternative models for countries like Australia.
